Hotel classic on the banks of Aurajoki celebrates 50 years – New sparkling riverside terrace crowns the anniversary year

"Our iconic hotel turns 50 this year. Our location right in the center of Turku, along the beautiful Aurajoki River, has attracted guests for several decades. Summer life and live music on the terrace

This summer, enjoy live music on the renovated Marina terrace.

"There is a unique atmosphere in Turku during the summer. Our terrace's location on the banks of the Aurajoki offers an incredible setting to enjoy the summer, and what is better way than enjoying music on a warm summer evening. From Midsummer week onwards, you can listen to live music on our terrace, and the gigs will continue until the end of August. Our house band is Kesäpantterit, but we will also have other performers such as the Sami Saari duo, Kristian Lakari, Kakkupojat, and Elisa Järvelä. Additionally, there will be salsa and bachata dancing on the terrace every Tuesday from June to August. We keep information about Marina's diverse live program updated on social media and the restaurant's website," Titta-Liina hints and also welcomes local guests.

Celebrating 50 years with special events and menus

50 years ago, the Marina's opening party featured Elysée Piccolos, and now the terrace offers Mionetto Piccolos to toast the 50-year-old hotel. In the fall, a 50th-anniversary menu will be published, featuring popular delicacies from previous years. This celebration menu can be enjoyed in the Marina's 2nd floor facilities by pre-order and is available for larger groups as well.

"Most of us certainly have wonderful memories of our visits to Marina, and we are now collecting these from our guests on social media. You can leave your own memories there," Titta-Liina smiles.

A rich history and excellent location

The long-pending project for a new grand hotel in Turku matured into the implementation stage in the 1960s, when the company Oy Hotelli Marina Ab was founded. The old buildings gave way to the hotel in the 70s, and the construction of the hotel, designed by architects Jaakko and Unto Rantanen and contracted by Rakennustoimisto A. Puolimatka Oy, began.

The hotel, with a volume of over 5,000 cubic meters and a floor area of more than 5,600 square meters, was named Marina Palace, and its official opening was celebrated in March 1974.

In 2005, the property underwent a complete renovation, and the hotel's operations became part of SOK's business. In 2011, Turun Osuuskauppa purchased the hotel's business operations. Today, the hotel is known as Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel.
