SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL FINLAND LABEL FOR OLAVINLINNA RESTAURANTS

Suur-Savo Cooperative Society’s Olavinlinna Restaurants has been awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) label.

To receive the label, companies must meet a set of criteria established by the tourism promotion organisation Visit Finland. The criteria take into consideration economic, environmental, social and cultural sustainability.

The Olavinlinna Restaurants is also part of the Green Key environmental programme. The participating companies commit to increasing the social and economic benefits of their operations and to minimising their environmental load. The STF label is, thus, a natural addition to the development of the group’s sustainability work.

Savonlinna as a promoter of responsible tourism in Lake Saimaa Region

Savonlinna has become a leading area for sustainable tourism in the Region of Lake Saimaa and has been awarded the regional Sustainable Travel Finland label. One of the criteria for receiving the label is that half of its businesses involved in international tourism have been awarded the STF label.

“International tourism operators expect tourism businesses and regions to operate in a sustainable way. Companies with the STF label are pioneers that wish to voluntarily take responsibility for the impact of their business activities on nature, people and society,” explains Sanna Eerikäinen, the project manager of the Towards Sustainable Tourism in the Savonlinna Region project.

The aims of the Towards Sustainable Tourism in the Savonlinna Region project are to strengthen the sustainability competence of the local tourism operators, to develop a systematic approach to sustainability and to increase sustainability communication.
